Dr. James Bowers abides by a medical philosophy of “Life is motion, motion is life.” As a board-certified surgeon for the EmergeOrtho—Triangle Region Joint Replacement Team, Dr. Bowers always looks for an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of his patients. This means utilizing his extensive knowledge in advanced joint replacement surgery techniques to restore patients to their active lifestyles.

Dr. Bowers makes patient-centered care a priority, clearly communicating to every patient how a procedure will be performed and what to expect afterward.

Education and Expertise

Dr. Bowers began his medical school education at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Upon graduation, he completed a residency through Duke University Medical Center in Orthopedics. He continued his training by completing a Fellowship in Orthopedic Research from Duke University Medical Center.

Board-certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Bowers is a fellow member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and an active fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

Dr. Bowers specializes in total joint replacements of the knee, hip, and shoulder, helping to alleviate joint pain and restore range of motion. Dr. Bowers spends his personal time enjoying athletics, especially soccer, swimming, and triathlons. He completed the Wisconsin Ironman in 2008 and 2012. He also enjoys reading and learning to play the guitar.
